    This Century was one of growth  in technology.  The beginning of the 1900s saw Australian federation.  While still recognising the Queen as sovereign and Britain as the founding nation, Australia became responsible for its own laws and governance.

    Australia was at last a nation in its own right.

    This century is characterised by colonisation and settlement.  Gold and agriculture moved Australia forward.
